I am so glad that you are interested in Mount St. Mary, my beloved alma mater, and one of the top high schools in Western New York. My name is Elizabeth Suchan and I am the Director of Admissions here, at Mount St. Mary, or more fondly called, ‘the Mount’.
Hopefully, as you browse the ‘Admissions’ section of our website some of your questions can be answered about the process and steps of applying to our school. There are important pieces, like a Shadow Day, financial aid and scholarship applications and the entrance exam, to learn more about. While the admissions process is important, I think it’s also important to be honest with you about my feelings about the Mount. Ready? Here goes: our school community is filled with kindness, our classes are exciting and rigorous and the opportunities available to students are life-changing. I work with students everyday who have developed more confidence in themselves as a writer, athlete, humanitarian, dancer or businesswoman because of the Mount.
As an administrator, I proudly watch students graduate and cross the stage in long white gowns after 4 years of hard work as a Mountie and I know they are really empowered and good young women. Students at Mount St. Mary come to us from many different middle schools, neighborhoods and backgrounds, but they all graduate as one group of empowered, authentic and scholarly individuals.
Our halls buzz with lots of chatter about the Noah Kahan concert, or the upcoming lacrosse tryouts, or a service project that Serve Club is organizing, or a funny story Mr. Oliver told in Pre-Calc. There’s enthusiasm and life here that’s contagious and it’s something I am happy to be a part of, and maybe, you will feel the same way!
Please, reach out if you have any questions about the admissions process or the Mount in general. I am happy to meet with you and your parents at any time.
Kindly,
Ms. Elizabeth Suchan-Reitz '07
Director of Admissions
